A few years ago, I noticed a holiday tradition popping up on Pinterest, the Christmas Eve box. I’d never heard of it before and thought it was such a sweet way to make Christmas Eve even more special. Most of the boxes included a new set of PJs for Christmas night, some hot cocoa, and a book to settle in with. I eventually began giving my kids their own little Christmas Eve box, and it is one of the things they look forward to most. I often catch them spying under the tree daily to see if it’s shown up yet. This year I’m sharing what we’re including in our Christmas Eve boxes, what are you putting in yours?
I started with a great little brown craft box I found at Hobby Lobby. I’d hoped to hand paint on it so that we could use it every year. I may still do that, but it didn’t happen this year.
Because I wasn’t able to hand paint it, I decided to tweak a template into custom tag on Canva to make it a bit more special.
I went with the traditional PJs, book, and cocoa with fun marshmallow toppers. Before the Christmas Eve box, I’d always given each of my girls an ornament, so I included it. I also tucked in a framed picture of our dog for their rooms. Starting last year, they each got a nutcracker as well, so I included it in the box this year. I also included a framed picture of I topped it off with a
decorated cookie yummy snack (I don’t know where I put the decorated cookie I planned to include. Am I the only person who does this?). With that, I’d run out of room.
Other great ideas to include in a Christmas Eve box:
- Snuggly socks
- A small puzzle or game
- A Christmas movie
- Reindeer food to sprinkle in the yard (oats and glitter!)
- Candy or other treats
- A book light / bookmark
- A Christmas mug
- Hand lotion / lip balm
*notice I don’t have my cute tag attached. My printer is down so if I don’t get to it, I’ll just scratch their names on the box with a Sharpie because I’m done Y’all.
