Kids are so super awesome, and they deserve super awesome gifts. Toddlers, however, are… tricky. They’re still super awesome, but they’re also not always easy to please. We have kids, we know what works. We think this list of gifts is spot on for any kid under the age of four. We tested this list of toddler gifts out recently (and left a few off the list that didn’t cut it).

Preschool and Toddler Gifts

  1. Picasso Tiles 60 Piece Set

$34

Test subject (okay fine, my nephew) went straight for this. After demanding one of the adults in the room open it, he began playing with it and didn’t stop for a whole four minutes (which is like 30 in adult minutes). He was completely engrossed and seemed to love putting the tiles together to build different things. Recommended for ages 3 and up.

2.             Melissa & Doug Let’s Play House Dust! Sweep! Mop! 6-Piece Pretend Play Set
$30
We could all use a little help around the house. And why not train the little darlings to also help out later! While a mop and broom set is definitely not the direction to go when searching for a gift for an adult, it’s a great gift for a kid. They love to “help”, so let them! Recommended for ages 3 to 6.

3.            McLaren 570S Push Sports Car from Step 2
$80
It’s hard to go wrong with a durable ride-on toy. The McLaren 570S Push Sports Car is a super cute way to get any kiddo around the block. Recommended for ages 18-24 months.

4.             Melissa & Doug Catch & Count Wooden Fishing Game With 2 Magnetic Rods
$25
The toddler test subject loves this game. If you can manage to keep them from whacking anyone in the head with the rod, it’s a true winner. Seriously though, it’s one of his favorites. Go buy it.  Recommended for ages 3 to 5.

5.             Step 2 Roller Coaster
$120 (but you can often find great deals on this one)
If you have a bigger gift budget and want to go all out, this is the toy to buy. This toy stays with them from two on up to five (and even beyond). Even older kids love to play on this thing. Recommended for ages 2 to 5.

6.             Step 2 Rain Showers Splash Water Playset
$130 (with deluxe toys included, cheaper without)
There are several variations of water table playsets out there, and they’re pretty much all fantastic. Toddlers and preschoolers love to play outdoors at these tables. Giving one of these keeps the kiddo occupied, and is like giving the gift of a few free minutes to parents too. Win! Recommended for ages 18 mos and up.

This is a great list of gift suggestions for kids age 2, age 3, and age 4. Check back because we’ve got great lists coming soon for older kids.

Would you add anything to this list? Have you seen any great toys for toddlers that you think we should include?
